Ramen Kagetsu Arashi – Tampines 1

21/7/2013 – With no dinner meetups in mind, I met XD for dinner before he needed to leave. I eventually chose Ramen Kagetsu Arashi at Tampines 1 although it was packed with a long queue. This place is famed for being one of the largest ramen chains in Japan, which eventually resulted in the first Singapore outlet at The Star Vista in May 2013 (this Tampines 1 outlet opened a month later). No doubt the fame has been brought over here.

We had the Gyoza 5 pieces ($6++). Crispy on the outside and filling on the inside. Not a tad too oily. Notwithstanding, I prefer the gyozas I had the day before at Osaka Ohsho.

XD had the Arashi Genkotsu Miso Ramen ($12.90++). This tasted great as the char siu were peppered with flavour although the soup tasted slightly strong of garlic which left a bit of aftertaste.

I had the Arashi Genkotsu Ramen ($12.90++), which is their original tonkotsu ramen. Great and flavourful, char siu peppered with flavour as well as the soup also left an aftertaste of garlic. The downside for both mine and XD’s ramen was that our eggs came in hard-boiled, contrary to most ramens having soft-boiled eggs (we were told prior to ordering the egg comes hard-boiled, whether ramen or a-la-carte).

A definite must come if you want ramen within the vicinity (unless you want Ajisen which is at nearby Tampines Mall). I would come back one day to try their rice dish, Teppan Itameshi.

Food: 8/10 (well simmered broth and ramen)
Ambience: 8/10 (vibrant, well furnished according to the theme of the restaurant)
Comfort: 8/10 (quaint seating)
Service: 7/10 (helpful service, food came rather slow)
Total: 31/40
