Daikokuya / Menya Koji Ramen Dining – Paragon

18/5/2013 – Daikokuya Ramen Dining. That’s where me and X went for dinner. Situated at B1 of Paragon, this restaurant doesn’t seem as big as the surrounding stalls such as Din Tai Fung but it wasn’t long before it was our turn to get in.

I ordered the Cha Shu Shoyu Ramen ($15.80++). It was slightly more saltier than the other shoyu ramens I have eaten but it doesn’t affect the texture of the ramen.

Next up is Salmon Carpaccio ($8.80++). The salmon blended with the Italian dressing is a great combination as the taste of the salmon along with the slightly spiced Italian dressing can be felt. A great thumbs up.

Another appetizer, Agedashi Tofu ($4.80++), was not too bad, although nothing surprising also.

X ordered a Tonkatsu Curry Rice ($15.80++). It was not bad but he recalled the meat was rather stiff although it was crispy. It had him swallowing the meat strips as a whole.

The dessert was a nice combination. Shiratama Cream Zenzai ($5.20++), a red bean dessert filled with glutinous rice balls topped with a vanilla ice cream, is recommended for anyone with a sweet tooth. Remember to mix a bit of ice cream with the red beans with every mouthful!

In overall, this place will be recommended for people who wants to avoid the queue within the Orchard area and wants a slightly cheaper Japanese meal.

Edit: Noted that about a month after this visit, Daikokuya Ramen Dining is renamed as Menya Koji Ramen Dining.
